In September 2015, all 193 Member States of the United Nations adopted a plan for achieving a better future for all — laying out a path over the next 15 years to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and protect our planet. At the heart of “Agenda 2030” are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which clearly define the world we want — applying to all nations and leaving no one behind.
UN Global Compact Network Canada has taken the lead in Canada to promote and implement these goals by raising awareness, facilitating discussions, and forging partnerships. Since its inception, the Local Network Canada has played a vital role in advocating the adoption of Global Goals by Canadian businesses and promoting their practical implementation.
In order to achieve significant progress toward the SDGs, responsible business practices and investments based on universal principles are crucial. This will not only benefit companies by improving the business environment and expanding global markets but also contribute to transformative change. To assist companies and other stakeholders in taking action toward SDG implementation, the UN Global Compact, along with other similar organizations, provides important initiatives and resources that offer practical tools and action-oriented platforms.
