The following is a letter from Kerry Adler, President and Chief  Executive Officer at Sky Power, addressing Canadian leaders of future and encouraging them to envision a future of clean energy. 

To the Future Leaders of Canada:

As we come together to commemorate Canada’s 150th anniversary, we have a tremendous opportunity to reflect on our past and ignite a vision of our future.

At SkyPower, when we imagine the future, we see one that is sustainable and powered by clean, green, affordable, renewable energy. We see a strong economy built on green jobs and green investments. We see the end of energy poverty and a place where people around the world have access to electricity – so that children can do their homework, entrepreneurs can grow their businesses, and families can spend quality time together long after the sun has set.

We are doing our part to achieve this vision. As one of the largest and most successful developers and owners of utility-scale solar photovoltaic energy projects in the world, we know the enormous benefits and opportunities of solar, and we are helping countries shift to a low-carbon economy. In fact, our work to develop solar energy touches on 13 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Here are some examples of how we are working to achieve a better tomorrow:

1. Generating green energy in Canada – We are proud of our leading-edge solar projects and pipeline in Canada. For instance, in Ontario, we built one of the first fully-operational utility-scale solar projects in North America, as well as one of the first utility-scale parks to be developed in collaboration with a First Nations community.

2. Creating shared value for everyone – We are proving that we can be a profitable business while generating social gains. This means creating local jobs, empowering local communities, and igniting sustainability-driven innovation. This is the way of the future. Not only is it the right thing to do, it also makes good business sense.

3. Building cross-sectoral partnerships around the world – We cannot affect real change in isolation. That is why SkyPower selects strong partners and regularly sponsors and participates in events that bring together associations, non-profits, civil society organizations, and other businesses to help chart a new course for a healthy and prosperous tomorrow.

The solar industry is growing exponentially and its potential outlook is nothing short of remarkable. As we look to the future, we imagine a world powered by the abundant energy of the sun. We call on the leaders of today and tomorrow to join us in generating a brighter future for all.
