Mary is responsible for the management, recruitment, professional development, and training of legal professionals and staff. She is also actively involved in women’s initiatives, internal and external diversity and inclusion initiatives, as well as the Firm’s pro bono initiatives. Mary is active in the Women@Blakes network and she is currently a member of the Steering Committee of the 30% Club. She is also a member of a working group established under the auspices of the Global Compact Network Canada and is a collaborator in an ongoing project to define gender equality in the workplace and to identify and address the barriers to achieving this vision. Mary also serves as a member of the Law Firm Diversity and Inclusion Network (LFDIN), a group of Canadian law firms who have agreed to work together to promote diversity and encourage a culture of inclusion in firms and the broader legal profession.

Prior to joining Blakes in 1999, Mary practiced civil litigation for six years at a large firm in Toronto. She was a law clerk to Madam Justice McLachlin at the Supreme Court of Canada from 1992 to 1993. Mary pursued her graduate studies in Sociology, where she developed an interest in diversity and inclusion.
