The guidance document also incorporates a Foreword from Professor John Ruggie, former UN Special Representative on Business and Human Rights.

Deborah Berger

Deborah Berger, Director, Environmental Advisory Services leads a team of environmental and social specialists at Export Development Canada, providing proactive advice to clients on CSR best practices and appraising projects against international standards. She is responsible for implementing and advancing EDC’s environmental and social risk management policies and represents EDC on the Steering Committee of the Equator Principles Association and at Export Credit Agency CSR forums. Deborah has broad experience developing management plans for projects in numerous sectors including oil and gas, mining, petrochemicals and power. Before joining EDC in 2002, Deborah worked as an environmental management consultant in Canada and internationally. She is a Professional Engineer with a Masters degree from the University of Toronto.

Mora Johnson

Mora Johnson is Senior Advisor at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) in the Natural Resource and Governance Policy Division. Her files include Chairing the OECD Forum on Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Sourcing of Minerals, leading on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and advising on the Government’s positions at multilateral fora on issues relating to natural resource governance and conflict minerals. Also at DFAIT, she has held positions in the Criminal, Security and Diplomatic Law Division, the UN, Human Rights and Economic Law Division and the U.S. Branch. She is an international lawyer with a J.D. from the University of Toronto and is published in the field of international criminal law.

Jonathan Drimmer

Jonathan Drimmer is the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Barrick Gold Corporation, where he helps oversee the Company’s business and human rights program, its anti-corruption program, entity level disputes, and other matters. Before Barrick, he was a partner at Steptoe & Johnson LLP, and Deputy Director in the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of Special Investigations. He has testified twice as an expert before the U.S. Congress, and for 15 years has taught courses at Georgetown University Law Center. He is on the Board of Directors of Trace International and is a member of UN Global Compact working groups and initiatives related to labour and human rights, security and human rights, and supply chain. Among his awards and recognitions are the Charles Fahy Award for teaching at Georgetown, and the first U.S. Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General Award for Human Rights Law Enforcement. He has been recognized by the National Law Journal as a Regulatory & Compliance Trailblazer, by Ethisphere Magazine as one of the world’s leading attorneys in Ethics & Compliance, and by The Law 500 one of the 100 most influential in-house counsel in the United States. He graduated from Stanford University and UCLA Law School.

Mark Wall

Mark is the Vice President of Asset Protection & Crisis Management at Barrick Gold Corporation. He has worked in the risk and security areas for 30 years, the last 20 years in the global extractives sector. This includes leadership roles with Barrick, Placer Dome and Western Mining Corporation (Now BHP Billiton), and several years as a specialist consultant focussed on the extractives sector leading non-technical risk assessments, security reviews or provided Crisis Management advice for more than 40 operations and projects in complex environments around the world.

Prior to entering the corporate sector Mark worked for 10 years within the Australian government with the majority of this service in the areas of tactical/counter-terrorist operations and criminal investigations, working with both national and international specialist law enforcement and counter-terrorism units. Mark has completed business and leadership programs at Harvard Business School in the United States and Oxford Business School in the United Kingdom, he holds a Master’s Degree in Management (Security). He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, based in The Hague, The Netherlands and is also a member of the Steering Committee of the United Nations Global Compact Business for Peace platform

Helle Bank Jorgensen

President, Global Compact Network Canada

Building on a background as a Business Lawyer and a State Authorized Public Accountant, Helle brings over 25 years of experience advising global companies within Corporate Responsibility and Reporting. Helle provides strategic and operational guidance to all functions within an organization, including the C-suite and board level. She was the creator of the world’s first green account, the world’s first integrated report, and the CEO/Investor-network for Business Ethics and Non-Financial Reporting. She has led the Improvement of CDP & DJSI ranking and investor communication for global companies.
After leading PwC’s Sustainability and Climate Change practices in Europe and the US, she now runs B. Accountability advising global business leaders in Sustainability and Climate Change. Since 2013 she has also led the Global Compact Network Canada, and is one of 12 Global Facilitators for UN Global Compact Board Programme. She is an author of thought-leading articles and books and has served on multiple boards. Helle is also one of the seven people in the world and the first in North America to have passed the GRI G4 Exam.
