Call for Expression of Interest for Case Study Specialist (Videographe

The UN Global Compact Network Canada is accepting Expressions of Interests (EOIs) from independent consultants / firms specializing in impact storytelling for writing and developing case studies for a publicly funded project on accelerating diversity, equity, inclusion in Canadian businesses (50 – 30 Challenge). The aim is to capture unique, innovative initiatives where Canadian non-profits and businesses are making an impact in accelerating diversity, equity, inclusion across their staff and governance boards and leadership. Organizations selected  level amongst Canadian corporations that are signatories to the Federal 50 – 30 Challenge, and the storytelling will highlight their progress on the Challenge’s representation targets. 

Activity Timeline: September 2024 to January 2025

Activity Budget: CAD$ 20,000-25,000 + travel expenses

Work Scope: Case study development through video interviews, including storyboarding, production and post production and subtitled in French/English (depending on the interviewee’s language spoken)

The Case Study Specialist (Videographer) will be responsible for:

  • Developing and drafting approximately 5-7 case studies as “Snapshots”, with focus on highlighting and capturing both the process and the DEI “impact” in the storytelling aspect, using video production. The goal is to highlight inspiring DEI initiatives and highlighting elements including but not limited to organizational change management for DEI, such as policies, rewards, incentives, initiatives, progress made, challenges and future target setting in tandem with learnings from participation in the 50 – 30 Challenge.
    • Input the data collected on Canadian businesses, part of the 50 – 30 Challenge in the tools prepared.
    • Meeti with UN Global Compact Network Canada to develop narrative concept, storyboard; periodic check ins on progress, review of early edits.
    • Coordinate with UN Global Compact Network Canada and interviewees to plan interviews, travel, etc.
    • Conduct/ record interviews; post production editing
    • Additions of French / English subtitles
    • Front titles and end credits

The final product should be 7-10 minutes in total length.

The Case Study Specialist (Videographer) will be required to have:

  • Substantial prior experience in case study development, impact storytelling, and developing powerful video narratives.
  • Strong impact storytelling skills.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders, with strong interpersonal skills and teamwork.
  • Ability to work within tight timelines and quick turnaround. Working in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to travel within Canada or delegate teams around Canada to travel for capturing content.
  • All equipment/tools required to draft, develop and produce the video "snapshots" should already be with the videographer/is responsibility of the videographer.
  • Preference for previous work on the topics of organizational change management, DEI, social impact.

The EOI should contain documents listed below:

  1. Covering note describing how the consultant(s) / firm’s skills and experience match the needs of the project. Please include consultant(s)/ firm qualifications with explicit reference to similar projects or previous case study development experience (including published or unpublished work) or descriptions/ examples of work.
  2. Resumes and experience of persons involved.
  3. Two professional references (name, organization, contact email and telephone number)
  4. Any website links, showcasing past experience.
  5. Any other information you think is appropriate

The proposals should be formatted as one PDF document, branded, including contents page, and all above mentioned information. 

EOI Submission Deadline

Submissions must be received by 5:00 p.m EST on 5 September 2024. Please submit to 50-30challenge@unglobalcompact.ca with the following subject line: ”EOI - Case Study Specialist - Videographer - 50 – 30 Challenge Project”. The UN Global Compact Network Canada is unable to discuss the terms of the project further in this call for EOIs, and therefore, will not be fielding informational calls or inquiries prior to the submission deadline. Only the shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview. 

How will your EOI be evaluated?

The UN Global Compact Network Canada will evaluate all submissions using the following framework:

  • Experience/ Expertise: Familiarity and experience with similar projects. 
  • Previous Work: Quality and relevance of the examples of work.
  • Core Values: Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and responsible business conduct.

Background and Project Description

The 50–30 Challenge is an initiative launched by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada aimed at encouraging Canadian organizations to attain the following representation targets for board of directors and/or senior management roles: 

  • Gender parity of 50% women/ non-binary people; and,
  • Significant representation (30%) of systemically underrepresented groups including those who identify as racialized, black and/or people of colour (visible minority), people with disabilities, LGBTQI2S+ and/or gender and sexually diverse individuals, and Indigenous peoples. 

The UN Global Compact Network Canada was named an Ecosystem Partner in 2021 and offers support to all Challenge participants through their project, “The Future is Equal: Enabling Ecosystems of Support in Canada”.
