The UN Global Compact Network Canada is one of the country networks of the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, dedicated to advancing the Ten Principles in human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Country Network Canada facilitates Canadian businesses' engagement in a global movement dedicated to sustainable and ethical business practices. It encompasses over 200 diverse companies, both large and small, fostering systemic change and enhancing sustainability across sectors. Through its activities, the Canadian Network not only showcases leadership but also offers its Participants a competitive edge by integrating sustainable practices into their core business strategies. 

In doing so, the Canadian Country Network unifies and builds the capacity of the Canadian private sector to embrace sustainable business practices by convening and accelerating opportunities for multi-stakeholder collaboration.

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Operations and Project Coordinator will support the overall operations of the UN Global Compact Network Canada by coordinating administrative functions, managing logistical tasks, and ensuring the seamless execution of both organizational activities and special projects. Special support will be provided to a multi-year systemic change project, supported by Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE), which aims to advance women’s representation in leadership and decision-making roles by focusing on the role of male allyship in gender equality.

This role requires an individual with strong organizational skills, experience in project coordination, and a keen understanding of financial management. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, capable of balancing multiple priorities, and committed to advancing gender equality through effective stakeholder engagement and operational support.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Finance

  • Oversee the budgeting and tracking of both project and organizational expenses, ensuring all financial activities comply with budget guidelines.
  • Manage accounts payable, processing purchase requests and informing relevant stakeholders (e.g., project managers and vendors) once payments are issued.
  • Support the accounts receivable process for annual participation invoices, engaging with stakeholders to facilitate payment collection and follow-up on outstanding invoices.
  • Monitor and manage the finance email inbox, responding to inquiries and directing requests to appropriate team members.
  • Perform data entry for financial transactions, maintain organized payment records, and support the generation of financial reports.
  • Provide other support and assistance to the Finance & Operations Manager on financial matters, as required. 

Operations

  • Provide general administrative assistance, including preparing correspondence, coordinating internal communications, and managing Google Drive and file organization.
  • Track Key Performance Indicators to measure the effectiveness of both operational and project activities, and regularly update the team.
  • Assist with maintaining organized records of operational and financial documents to ensure easy access and compliance with record-keeping policies.
  • Support the organization’s administrative needs, such as scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, and arranging travel and accommodations for team members.
  • Assist in other operational and administrative tasks as required, demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness to the evolving needs of the organization.
  • Provide other operational support and assistance to the Finance & Operations Manager and the Executive Director, as required.

Project Coordination

  • Support the execution of specific project activities, ensuring timely delivery of outcomes and deliverables.
  • Coordinate input from stakeholders for key projects, such as the Allyship Action Plan Guide, and track progress against project milestones.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for the project.
  • Provide support and assistance to the Project Manager.

Teamwork and Ambassadorship

  • Participate in organizational meetings, strategy sessions, and reporting with the wider team, contributing to big-picture thinking as the organizational team.
  • Work as an ambassador for the organization with all stakeholders, looking for ways to connect the organization and companies to new opportunities.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Proficiency in financial tracking, budgeting, and managing accounts payable/receivable.
  • Experience with technology platforms such as Zoom, Google Workspace, Salesforce, Quickbooks and similar tools.
  • Data management and reporting skills, with experience in generating reports to assess project and operational effectiveness.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • An understanding of corporate DEI initiatives, gender equality women’s issues, and allyship is considered an asset.
  • French proficiency (spoken and written) is considered an asset. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A Degree or a Diploma in Business Administration, Finance, Social Sciences, or a related field with 2-3 years of relevant work experience in administration, finance, or project management (Degree is considered an asset).

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS 

  • Salary remuneration: $58,000 annually
  • Health and dental benefits package (after 3 month probationary period)
