The Business Development Specialist will be responsible for engaging prospects in the UN Global Compact Network Canada recruitment pipeline and working to recruit more responsible businesses from the region to join the movement.
The Business Development Specialist will be working closely with the Engagement Manager and will be responsible for recruiting companies within Canada to join the UN Global Compact. They will be responsible for maintaining an effective and efficient prospect pipeline to drive recruitment of companies in Canada. The scope extends from qualifying inbound prospects to securing discovery meetings to recruitment of all types and sizes of business in Canada.
This is all done with the intent to scale the global collective impact of business sustainability and contribute to the delivery of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engage active prospects and new leads to join discovery calls about the UN Global Compact and help them understand the benefits of joining the world’s largest voluntary corporate sustainability initiative;
- Work with the UN Global Compact Network Canada team to deliver relevant activities that will attract and engage prospective companies to consider joining the UN Global Compact;
- Personally lead prospect follow-ups for priority campaigns through email, calls, social media, etc., to extend awareness of the UN Global Compact;
- Nurture excellent relationships with UN Global Compact Network Canada prospects;
- Nurture SMEs and other company leads, schedule and conduct discovery calls with the goal of converting prospects into Participants;
- Work with the Engagement Manager to improve prospect follow-up and outreach engagement practices;
- Build an understanding of prospect needs and gather feedback to provide insight to the team;
- Represent UN Global Compact Network Canada at events and conferences, engaging companies and generating leads and partnership connections;
- Actively use processes, tools and capabilities to improve outreach efficiency and company satisfaction. This involves identifying improvements in the implementation of technologies (CRM software and associated efficiency practices), tracking and reporting systems, etc.;
- Track prospect activities (weekly, monthly etc.);
- Deliver weekly prospect and opportunity reports and complete all related CRM updates in a timely manner.
- Travel throughout Canada and to occasional international meetings, as required. (Approximately 10-20 days of travel semi-annually).
Expected Results
- Meet ambitious recruitment targets for SMEs and Companies in Canada; work with the team to meet retention KPIs outlined on an annual basis.
- Effectively and efficiently qualify inbound prospects, and coordinate follow-ups
- Follow-up with prospects to secure discovery meetings and conduct introductory calls.
- Prioritize prospect lists and provide relevant, updated information for key next steps and tasks.
- Accountable for the contributions to the growth of UN Global Compact Network Canada
- Generating new recruitment opportunities to fuel growth of business joining the UN Global Compact.

- Proficient in Salesforce/other CRM contact management and reporting systems.

- Proven experience in analyzing data to extract insight around engagement results, client satisfaction, client understanding, as well as the impact of activities, and global sustainability trends.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- A first-level university degree in business administration, management, economics, political science, social science or related field.
- Four to five years of experience in account management and sales. Experience working with stakeholder groups in the region is preferred. Knowledge of CSR, corporate sustainability practices and priorities would be considered an asset.
- Written and verbal proficiency in English is essential; the French language is an asset.

COMPENSATIONS AND BENEFITS
- Salary range: $70,000 to $75,000
