Rumina Dhalla, MBA, PhD, is an Associate Professor and Director of the Institute for Sustainable Commerce in the Department of Management in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph. She has recently been appointed special consultant to the United Nations Initiative for Teaching and Research (UNITAR) to work on the Global Aging Initiative, ESG programs for Diplomats, SDGs integration and the CIFAL Network. Dr. Dhalla holds a number of leadership roles including Chair of the Board for the UN Global Compact Network Canada, Vice-Chair of the Principles for Responsible Management Education, NA Chapter, and Guardian of the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative. She was also the Project Lead for the Guelph East Africa initiative led by the University of Guelph.
Much of her academic life is around Sustainability and SDGs. She developed and launched the MBA, Sustainable Commerce at Guelph, ranked at #1 In Canada by the Corporate Knights Better World MBA Ranking in 2022. She has been part of the President’s Task Force and Advisory Board for Sustainability and SDGs. Prior to her academic career, she accumulated over 20 years of industry experience in a wide range of leadership roles in the Canadian banking industry.
She is the recipient of major grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council for Canada for sustainability research. An accomplished teacher, she was awarded the MBA Distinguished Professor Award and was recognized for her service with the 2019 United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education Excellence in Service Award.
