Rumina Dhalla

Director, Institute of Sustainable Commerce and Associate Professor, University of Guelph


Rumina Dhalla, MBA, PhD is Director, Institute of Sustainable Commerce and  Associate Professor in the Department of Management in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph. Dr. Dhalla holds a number of leadership roles including Chair of the Board for the United Nations Global Compact Network Canada and Chair of the Guardians with the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative. She was also the Project Lead for Guelph East Africa initiative led by the University of Guelph and was appointed Special Consultant to the United Nations Initiative for Teaching and Research (UNITAR) to work on the Global Aging Initiative, ESG programs for Diplomats, SDGs integration and the CIFAL Network. 

Much of her academic life is around Sustainability and SDGs. Her research interests include ESG, sustainable innovations, sustainability rankings and ratings, organizational identity, corporate reputation and corporate strategies for sustainability, responsibility and SDGs. Her research has been published in highly ranked journals such as the Journal of Service Research and Organization Studies. She has served on numerous high profile advisory boards such as the President’s Task Force and Advisory Board for Sustainability and SDGs and the Network for Business Sustainability. Most recently, she was part of the Canadian Delegation to the UN High Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development. Prior to her academic career, she accumulated over 20 years of industry experience in a wide range of leadership roles in the Canadian banking industry.
