POSITION SUMMARY
With a growing demand for environment and climate-focused programming for our Network companies, we are looking for a dedicated, skilled and efficient team player to support the delivery of our Environment and Climate Change activities.
The successful candidate will work with senior management to coordinate, design and deliver our environment and climate-related initiatives to engage our corporate Network Participants in climate-related corporate action.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the delivery of our environment and climate initiatives in a manner that encourages our Network Participants to take bold corporate action while supporting UN Global Compact Network Canada’s environment and climate priorities. These include roundtables, seminars, webinars, training workshops, working groups and conferences.
- Work alongside the Global Compact Office to lead and support the delivery of the UN Global Compact Climate Ambition Accelerator and Climate Peer Learning programmes.
- Act as a technical advisor to a Federally-funded project on corporate climate adaptation projects.
- Lead the liaison with Network members, civil society, the United Nations and other stakeholders on strategically aligned environmental and climate change issues.
- Stay current on climate change and environmental trends as well as related public policy and business practices including evolving legislation and reporting regulations.
- Conduct research, and write reports and summaries related to the environment and climate portfolio.
- Work with senior management to draft proposals for grants and other funding opportunities to further support the Canadian private sector in adhering to the environmental principles of the UN Global Compact and related Sustainable Development Goals.
- Support UN Global Compact Network Canada’s active participation in local and global conferences related to the file.
- Work with the marketing team in the development of appealing online content to support programming and enhance awareness of UN Global Compact Network Canada’s activities.
- Other ad hoc tasks as required.

Knowledge and passion for environmental sustainability and addressing climate change
- A demonstrable knowledge of environmental sustainability in the areas of use of natural resources, biodiversity, climate change and the related responsible business agenda.
- Strong interest in driving corporate action on climate change and better environmental stewardship.
- Persuasive and engaging communication skills
- Proven facilitation and/or adult education skills.
- Proven presentation and communications competencies in public speaking, moderating, panel speaking and subject matter conversations.
- Ability to communicate persuasively in written form to engage businesses.
Excellent project management skills:
- Experienced at planning and executing against goals; prioritizing activities and communicating adjustments to priorities as required; tracking and measuring progress.
- Talent for foreseeing risks and allowing for contingencies when planning. Monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary.

REQUIREMENTS:
- A Bachelor's Degree in environment, sustainable development, sustainability management, or equivalent. A Masters Degree is preferred.
- 4+ years of experience working on projects related to environmental sustainability.
- Prior experience working on corporate sustainability projects is preferred.
- Prior project management experience.
- Technical expertise in climate adaptation, particularly nature-based solutions and biodiversity in mining, agriculture, and engineering is preferred.
- Proficiency in English is essential (full command of both spoken and written); French language proficiency would be considered an asset.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Salary remuneration: $60,000 - 65,000 annually
- Health and dental benefits package (after a 3-month probationary period)
- Three weeks paid vacation plus end-of-year office closure (total of four+ weeks)
